Atlanta Flood & Treated Tap Water Quality - Is The Treated Tap Water Safe to Drink in Atlanta?

October 10th, 2009 · No Comments

During the week of the intense rainfall here in and around Atlanta I saw that “Atlanta Flooding” was the second most Googled subject for the day. Out of the roughly 500 million internet users (with over 50% of them using Google) in the world, the rain and subsequent flooding in Atlanta didn’t just have national attention, but also global attention.

How bad was the flooding in Atlanta? There were seven consecutive days of measureable rain, with some areas getting up to 20 inches over a 24-hour period.

Three of the major interstates around Atlanta closed due to flooding: I-20 in the west metro areas; I-285 in the west metro area; and I-575 to the northwest. Hundreds more roads around metro Atlanta were closed in Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Fulton and Paulding counties. More than 1,500 people were evacuated from the northwest Georgia town of Trion, where the Chattooga River breached a levee there. Most metro Atlanta school districts, including Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Cobb counties closed their schools for at least one or two days because of the flooding.

Six Flags Over Georgia was under water.

People were being evacuated from their homes by boat. This is not the sort of thing we usually get here in “Hotlanta”. I’ve seen news broadcasts of this thing in Mississippi and Missouri before but never right here in my own backyard.

But besides the work and school stoppages and the traffic disasters and the estimated 250 million dollars worth of damage and states of emergency that have been declared by the governor, there’s another problem: water treatment. [Read more →]

Chiropractic Care Can Improve Quality of Life for Mesothelioma Patients

September 30th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Chiropractic care has become a more frequently used form of treatment by cancer patients over the years. Chiropractic care is administered to treat and prevent pain and disorders pertaining to the musculoskeletal system that controls the body’s movement, including the spine.

According to the American Chiropractic Association, chiropractic doctors “have a deep respect for the human body’s ability to heal itself without the use of surgery or medication. These doctors devote careful attention to the biomechanics, structure and function of the spine, its effects on the musculoskeletal and neurological systems, and the role played by the proper function of these systems in the preservation and restoration of health. A doctor of chiropractic is one who is involved in the treatment and prevention of disease, as well as the promotion of public health, and a wellness approach to patient healthcare.”

Cancer patients have included chiropractic care in their course of treatment to help control pain and alleviate headaches, tension and stress. Patients interested in alternative treatment, who strongly believe in the body’s ability to heal itself, may find chiropractic care particularly appealing. Alleviating severe headaches and movement pains during cancer treatment may make the treatment process more comfortable for cancer patients, including those battling mesothelioma. [Read more →]

Vaccinations and Autism Linked? Can Vaccinating Your Child Cause Autism?

May 12th, 2008 · No Comments

I don’t know if any of you ever read the Atlanta Journal Constitution, but on the front page of the AJC on Thursday, March 6, 2008 was a story about a little nine-year old girl in Georgia named Hannah Poling. Her story is significant because she has autism, and now, for the first time ever, government officials are conceding that childhood vaccines contributed to the problem. [Read more →]

Chiropractor Advice - Tips for Buying The Right Mattress and a Better Nights Sleep

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

I received this e-mail the other day from one of my patients and since this is a question that I get asked a lot, I thought I would share my response with everyone.

Hello Dr. Steve

How are you? Well I think our current mattress may be at the end. Can you recommend any brands / types? I saw the following this weekend but I am not sure it would be recommended for my back (body) situation.

It was a Sealy Posturepedic Stelingshire firm (Costco).

Can you provide any advice/direction on this matter?

Thanks in advance. Marcos

What Exactly IS the Carpal Tunnel? - The Carpal Tunnel Myth, Part 4

January 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

What Exactly IS the Carpal Tunnel?

First of all, “Carpal” simply means WRIST. The Carpal Tunnel is a small tunnel or canal inside the wrist. The top part is formed by the carpal (wrist) bones. The bottom part is made up a ligament—a tough band of connective tissue called the Flexor Retinaculum.

There Are 3 Structures Inside The Carpal Tunnel :

  1. The Median Nerve – controls some hand movement and sensation
  2. Nine “flexor” tendons that enable you to curl your wrist and fingers
  3. Blood vessels

TRUE Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Comes From Compression of the Median Nerve Within the Carpal Tunnel.

What few people seem to be told… [
